First meeting with supervisor

Tomorrow I'm meeting my supervisor as part of my official PHD program for the first time. I have done a little bit of preparation but don't really know what to expect. I think approaching it with an open mind is the way to go.

HI, I hope your experiences with your supervisor is going to be better than mine was. My supervisor was hopless and my PHD took me 12 years to complete. (A lot of part time study!) But at the end he kept moving the goalposts, remember that this is your PHD not his. Be strong do what you want, don't let him hijack it with his pet theories. At the end I had to say to him we can go two ways, either I put the thesis in the bin or I submit, I refuse to do anymore work, this is two years after my viva. Where I didn't pass because the examiners didn't like the structure, the structure my supervisor had suggested and let go.

Good luck,

Thanks for the tips. I've been scouting for tips as I am a firm believer in asking a lot of questions but then do it anyway.
